ABOUT THE CHOCOLATE:
The farm was founded by Ricardo Guzmán Álvarez who emigrated from Spain to Colombia in 1820 with his two brothers. The plot of land he settled on in Gigante, Huila already had some cacao growing on it. So he decided to plant more and grew it into a much larger operation which is now called Finca Casa Blanca (named after the farmhouse on the property).

Today it is managed by his great-great grandson, Reynaldo Guzmán Romero. Reynaldo is 72 years old and has been working Casa Blanca for several decades already . It is the oldest and largest cacao farm in Huila. In fact, there are trees on the farm from the 1800s that are still producing today!

When we first tried this cacao, dried cherries and chocolate pudding came to mind. The finished chocolate has some acidity, but it is matched nicely with the sweetness of the chocolate itself. This 85% bar could fool us into tasting like a 70%, but don't take our word for it - try one for yourself!

Great taste and packaging

Love the notes of this chocolate, it was a gift and the person really enjoyed (had a change to try it as well), but the packaging got my attention. Loved the design featured!

Surprisingly fruity

When I read the tasting notes, I took it with a grain of salt - similar to wine or coffee - but was pleasantly surprised at how fruity and sweet this was. Barely any of the chalkiness or bitterness that often comes with 80%+ chocolate.
